2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 addresses issues buyers might have shopping for an EV

By Paul Borden - MyCarData

The 2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 addresses at least two of the more-common concerns shoppers have when they are looking into buying an all-electric vehicle (EV), namely driving range and charging times. Received with high praise in its debut 2022 model year, the South Korean’s compact SUV can be had in models that offer just over 300 miles of driving range between charges when equipped with the extended range battery. (Hyundai puts range for the standard range battery at 230 miles.

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy — Dramatic redesign

2024 Hyundai Santa Fe Calligraphy — Dramatic redesign

By Dan Scanlan - MyCarData

Almost everybody who looked at this Earthy Brass Matte-painted crossover wondered what the “H” it was — and that was even after they saw the “H” emblem on it. Yes, it is a Hyundai, but nothing like most of the recent designs to come out of the company with big stylized chrome or gloss black grills, stacked low-mounted headlights and faceted, curved flanks on fairly streamlined shapes.

2024 Lexus RX450h+ is the sumptuous luxury electric crossover that can travel near and far

2024 Lexus RX450h+ is the sumptuous luxury electric crossover that can travel near and far

By Casey Williams - MyCarData

A well-respected automotive journalist recently went on a rant about plug-in hybrids.  To his point, they’re not efficient.  When running as an EV, they must tote around an unnecessary gas engine.  And, when running in gas mode, it’s lugging heavy batteries.  I’m all in with his logic…until I have to plug in somewhere away from my garage.  While I may like owning a Tesla Model Y, Cadillac Lyriq, or Genesis GV60, it might be easier to own a Lexus RX450h+ plug-in hybrid.

Subaru’s BRZ tS — Cut loose. Footloose.

Subaru’s BRZ tS — Cut loose. Footloose.

By David Boldt - MyCarData

To paraphrase singer Deniece Williams (briefly) and the Footloose soundtrack, LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOYS! Regardless of the auto industry’s recent efforts at gender diversity (and there are many), a tightly drawn 2+2 with a horizontally opposed four and manual trans could only have been executed by a small, brief outpouring of testosterone. At 12 years old and now in its second generation, Subaru’s BRZ and its platform stablemate, Toyota’s GR 86, are knocking on the door of adolescence with a refined 2.4 liter powertrain, more maturity throughout, and in Subaru’s new tS guise, track day credibility — you know, to tear up the town…

Have you ever been to Montana?  As I found for my first visit recently, it’s a big place — the kind of wide open, horizon-to-horizon, nestling mountains, and wide-open Interstates kind of place where you just want to drive, drive, and drive.  Turns out, it was the perfect place to meet the redesigned 2025 Subaru Forester.

2024 Ford Maverick Hybrid — Standard engine swapped

By Paul Borden - MyCarData

The 2024 Ford Maverick is pretty much the same compact pickup that Ford brought to market for 2022, but the company did make one somewhat unusual change. The first two Mavericks were offered with a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain as standard and a 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder as an option. The 2024 Ford Maverick switches those, making the 2.0L Ecoboost the standard and the gas-electric hybrid an option.

Kia's all-new EV9 — #MeThreeMovement (three rows, three tons)

Kia's all-new EV9 — #MeThreeMovement (three rows, three tons)

By David Boldt - MyCarData

As I’ve written and they’ve written, sales of all-electric vehicles are flatlining. And no, that’s not flatlining as if strapped to a gurney — it’s flatlining as if they’ve hit a plateau; which, at least figuratively, they have. The rush by early adopters to purchase an EV has slowed, largely because those early adopters have already adopted, while most middle-class folk, when considering spending north of $50K for an EV, have paused — and will likely extend that pause well into the unpredictable future. And there’s no better indication of that hesitation than seeing Kia’s newly introduced 3-row EV9 sit on dealership lots.
