Longstanding Q50 survives as lone sedan in Infiniti lineup

By Paul Borden - MyCarData

The Q50 sedan was an all-new model when it was introduced as a replacement for the G37 in Infiniti’s lineup, but despite its double-digit age, it has gone through no major modifications and remains part of the vehicle’s first generation, a rare shelf-life in the automotive world. Not only that, with the discontinuation of the Q60 after the 2022 model, the 2024 Infiniti Q50 is the only sedan offering in the company’s five-vehicle portfolio. Crossover SUVs bearing QX designations fill out the lineup

Volvo recently introduced the EX90, a full-size all-electric luxury crossover that, by all accounts, is a very well-engineered machine with 300 miles range and all of the features today’s upscale drivers demand.  However, if you’ve ever tried to find a charger away from your garage or place of employment, you may wish for an easier, if less technically advanced, solution.  You may prefer the 2024 Volvo XC90 Recharge.

The best way to make a crossover look more like a more rugged sport utility vehicle – is to make it look more rugged. That means a boxier build to its body, and that extends to the wheels as well. Or when it comes to Kia’s midsize CUV offering, combining its “Opposites United” design philosophy with the concept of “Bold for Nature.”

It might just have the right combination of luxury panache for the demanding customer.

2024 Ford Escape Plug-in Hybrid — Decent EV range

By Dan Scanlan - MyCarData

My Tesla-owning neighbor strolled up as I motored down the street near our abodes, my Ford Escape warbling quietly as it cruised at a community-friendly 15-mph on EV only. “Wow, that’s quiet,” she said as her fluffy Labradoodle sniffed the flanks of the plug-in hybrid CUV, quiet now as I stopped to chat.

BMW 7 Series gets fully electric drive capability in i7 sedan

By Paul Borden - MyCarData

BMW began getting serious about electrifying its fleet of luxury vehicles a decade ago introducing the i3 hatchback as its first mass-produced zero-emission model. Last year the German automaker topped out its portfolio of sedan-configured EVs with the 2023 BMW i7. A big, powerful brute packed with a multitude of tech features and creature comforts (massage anyone?), the BMW i7 came in only one trim level for 2023.

2024 Hyundai Tucson Hybrid — Good mpg, solid performance

As car buyers are shying away from purchasing fully electric cars they are not abandoning electrified vehicles, voting with their pocketbooks for hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions that in addition to featuring electric motors and batteries are backed up by gas engines. Makes sense at least until the public EV charging infrastructure is expanded and the myriad of other EV concerns are put to rest.

All automakers are facing the challenge of how to keep their sedans relevant.  It’s a crossover world, ya’all.  So, to stand out from the boring three-box masses, they must innovate without squandering the handling and comfort for which sedans are known.  When Toyota replaced its long-standing Avalon full-size sedan, it could have just given us another.  Instead, we drive the 2024 Toyota Crown Platinum.

BMW conjures an Ultimate Driving Machine from its six-figure X5 M60i crossover (video included)

Back in the waning days of the last century when the BMW X5 began production in South Carolina, the vehicle was intended to be an “ultimate driving machine” marinated with American spirit — an SUV that could go flat-out on the Autobahn…or Eisenhower’s Interstate.  Through four generations, the X5 has been a staple of the German automaker.  But what if we crossed an M5 super sedan with the X5 and threw in a hybrid system for extra kicks?  Then, you’d have the 2024 BMW X5 M60i.

Nissan's Z NISMO — Return of the Samurai

Nissan's Z NISMO — Return of the Samurai

By David Boldt - MyCarData

It was some 20 years ago when Nissan invited me (and many, many others) to its Nissan 360 press event, which brought together — in and around San Francisco — Nissan’s global fleet for, if you will, a fleet meet-and-greet. There were dozens of highlights, including the chance to both see and drive many of the Nissan models not available in these United States. But my personal best was driving a NISMO-modified 350Z on a winding route into Northern California’s Marin County.
